Moissanite Tennis Bracelet Guide: Stone Size, Length and Fit

Moissanite tennis bracelet with a continuous row of round stones in white rhodium-plated sterling silver

A moissanite tennis bracelet is a flexible line of individually set moissanite stones that circles the wrist in unbroken sparkle. To choose one, decide on stone size first (about 2.5–3 mm for subtle, 4–5 mm for statement), then measure your wrist and add roughly 1–2 cm for comfort. After that, it comes down to metal color, clasp and how you'll care for it.

Here's how to get each of those right, with examples from our own bracelets.

Why moissanite works so well in a tennis bracelet

A tennis bracelet is all about continuous light, and moissanite is generous with it. Its refractive index is about 2.65–2.69 (diamond is about 2.42) and its dispersion, the rainbow "fire", is about 0.104 versus diamond's 0.044, more than twice as much. In a row of small stones that move with your wrist, that fire shows up as constant colorful flashes.

Durability matters too, since bracelets knock into desks and doorframes. Moissanite is about 9.25 on the Mohs scale, harder than sapphire and well above cubic zirconia, so the stones resist scratching in daily life. And because it's lab-created, a full line of stones usually costs far less than the same look in diamond. If you're curious about the stone itself, start with what moissanite is.

Stone size: the single biggest choice

Stone size sets the whole personality of the bracelet. Each stone in a tennis bracelet is small on its own, but dozens together add up to a strong look.

Stone sizeApprox. DEW per stoneOverall lookGood for
1.2 mm (pavé)very small accentFine shimmer, texturedStacking, subtle daily wear
2.5 mmunder 0.10 ctDelicate, refined lineEveryday, first tennis bracelet
3 mmabout 0.10 ctClassic and visibleDaily wear, work, gifts
3.5 mmabout 0.17 ctNoticeably polishedDay to evening
4 mmabout 0.25 ctBold, high sparkleOccasions, statement stacking
5 mmabout 0.50 ctUnmistakable statementEvening, events, solo wear

The DEW (diamond-equivalent weight) figures follow standard round diamond conversions. For how carat and millimeters relate in moissanite, see our moissanite carat size chart.

A useful rule of thumb: the larger the stones, the more the bracelet stands up off the wrist and the more it will catch on sleeves. If you type all day or wear knitwear, 2.5–3 mm tends to be the most comfortable everyday size. If the bracelet is for evenings or for wearing on its own, 4–5 mm gives you real presence.

Length and fit: how to measure your wrist

Our bracelets are sold in centimeter lengths, so measure in centimeters if you can.

Measuring step by step

  1. Use a soft tape measure, or wrap a strip of paper or string around your wrist and mark where it overlaps.
  2. Measure where you'll wear it, just below the wrist bone on the hand side, snug against the skin but not tight.
  3. Lay the paper or string flat against a ruler and read the measurement in cm. (If your ruler is in inches, multiply by 2.54.)
  4. Add for comfort: roughly 1 cm for a close fit, 1.5 cm for a comfortable fit, and about 2 cm for a looser, slightly draped fit.
  5. Add a little extra for larger stones. A 4–5 mm bracelet has more depth on the inside, which uses up some of the length, so lean toward the looser end.
  6. Measure twice, ideally on two different days, since wrists can vary slightly with temperature and time of day.

Tennis bracelets aren't meant to be skin-tight. A good fit lets the bracelet move slightly and settle against the wrist bone without sliding far down onto the hand.

One honest note before you order: under our return policy, wrong-size returns and exchanges are not accepted. So take your time with the measurement, and if you're between two lengths or measuring for someone else, email service@furmanluxury.com with your numbers and we'll help you choose.

The Timeless Tennis Bracelet's half-centimeter steps are especially helpful if your measurement lands between whole numbers. Midnight Ice runs up to 23 cm, which suits larger wrists and people who like a loose drape.

Clasps: what to look for

A tennis bracelet's clasp carries a lot of responsibility. Whatever bracelet you're considering, these are the features worth checking in the product photos or asking about:

  • Box clasp: a tongue that clicks into a small box. It sits flat and keeps the line of stones looking continuous. It's the traditional choice for tennis bracelets.
  • Safety catch: a hinged latch (sometimes a figure-eight) that folds over the box clasp as a backup. If a bracelet has one, use it every time.
  • Lobster clasp: a spring-loaded hook, more common on chain-style bracelets.

Make it a habit to check that the clasp clicks firmly when you put the bracelet on. A clasp that feels loose or no longer clicks should be looked at by a jeweler before you wear it again. If you'd like to know exactly which closure a particular piece of ours uses, email us and we'll confirm.

Metal and plating: what you're actually buying

Our bracelets are made in 925 sterling silver. Most are finished with gold or rhodium plating, and several carry an extra protective coating listed as an AF protective film:

  • Timeless Tennis Bracelet: white rhodium or 14K gold plating over sterling silver.
  • Midnight Ice: 14K gold plating in white, rose or black gold over sterling silver, plus the protective film.
  • Decem Éclat: 14K gold plating plus the protective film.
  • Twist of Brilliance: listed as 925 sterling silver.

These are not solid gold. Plated sterling silver is a real precious-metal base with a gold-colored surface, and it keeps a full line of D-color, VVS1-listed moissanite within reach. The trade-off is that plating can wear with friction and chemicals over time, and bracelets, which rub against desks and other jewelry, see more friction than earrings or pendants. Our guide to gold-plated sterling silver explains how plating compares with vermeil, gold-filled and solid gold, and what re-plating involves.

White, gold or black: choosing a look

  • White (rhodium or white gold plating): the classic icy tennis bracelet. Makes colorless moissanite look its brightest.
  • Yellow gold plating: warmer and a little vintage. Lovely with gold watches.
  • Black stones: Midnight Ice uses black moissanite for a darker, modern take on the classic. It pairs especially well with black gold or white finishes. Our article on black moissanite explains how black stones differ from colorless ones.

Stacking and pairing

Tennis bracelets stack well with a watch or a bangle. A practical approach is to pair one bold piece with one fine one: a 4 mm Timeless Tennis Bracelet beside the fine 1.2 mm pavé of Twist of Brilliance, for example. Stacked pieces rub against each other, though, so if you stack daily, expect plating to need attention sooner, and consider keeping the stack for occasions.

Care: keeping the sparkle and the finish

  • Take it off before swimming, the gym, cleaning, gardening and showering.
  • Put it on last, after lotion, sunscreen and perfume have dried.
  • Clean gently: warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Skip harsh chemicals and abrasive polishing cloths on plated surfaces. Our guide on how to clean moissanite has the full routine.
  • Store it flat and separately, in a soft pouch or its own compartment, so stones from other pieces can't scratch the plating.
  • Check the clasp and settings now and then. If a stone ever feels loose, stop wearing the bracelet until it's checked.

Moissanite won't permanently cloud or lose its fire. If a bracelet looks dull, it's almost always lotion or skin oils on the stones, and a gentle clean brings it back.

Frequently asked questions

What size stones should a moissanite tennis bracelet have?+

For a delicate everyday bracelet, 2.5 to 3 mm stones are a comfortable choice. At 3.5 to 4 mm the bracelet becomes clearly visible and polished, and 5 mm stones make a bold statement. Very fine 1.2 mm pavé suits stacking and subtle sparkle.

What length tennis bracelet should I get?+

Measure your wrist snugly where the bracelet will sit, just below the wrist bone on the hand side, then add roughly 1 to 2 cm depending on how loose you like it. Add a little more for larger stones, because they take up space inside the bracelet. Choose the closest available length, and measure twice before ordering.

Can I wear a moissanite tennis bracelet every day?+

Moissanite itself is very hard, about 9.25 on the Mohs scale, so the stones handle daily wear well. Our bracelets are plated sterling silver, so take them off for the gym, swimming, cleaning and hand-washing to help the plating last, and keep lotion and perfume away from them.

Is a moissanite tennis bracelet solid gold?+

Ours are not. They are 925 sterling silver plated in gold or white rhodium, which keeps the price far below solid gold. Plating can wear with friction over time and can be renewed by a jeweler.

Can I exchange a tennis bracelet for a different length?+

Wrong-size returns and exchanges are not accepted under our return policy, so it's worth measuring carefully before you order. If you're between lengths or unsure, email service@furmanluxury.com with your wrist measurement and we'll help you choose.
